The new Razr 2 V8 as pictured above in its dark bluish grey stainless steel frame is soon set to launch in the UK and has already been posted as a hot up coming mobile phone at Phones4u.co.uk. Compared to its popular predecessor Razr V3 / V3i / V3x, the new V8 has many improved features, like a thinner, shiny clampshell framework. Though it is extremely thin, its steel casing makes it very stable to handle and not ‘shaky’ like other flip phones. It has a large external touch sensitive front screen, which vibrates when it is touched and allows you to control the phone’s various functions like music play.
Another new function to the clampshell is its ability to directly read out texts as speech, which is a convenient feature for reading out text messages when your hands are busy with something else!
However, there are some disappointing downsides to the V8, for example, it does not support any type of memory card and has only a small internal memory of 420 MB, although a 2 GB version has recently been rumoured. Also, it is not 3G compatible and does not offer any WLAN function. With only a 2.0 megapixel camera, the V8 may not be the best choice for those who sought a flip phone with high quality photographic capability.
