First ever tweet and 3G connected call from summit of mount everest made today

Kenton Cool becomes the first climber to make a video call and update his social networks from the top of Everest on Samsung’s new Galaxy S II
Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., announces that the first ever 3G connection and world’s highest tweet was made today from the summit of Mount Everest, on its new Galaxy S II smartphone. British born climber, Kenton Cool, today reached the summit at in the early hours of this morning and, having unboxed his new Galaxy S II at base camp and carried it with him on his journey, made the very first 3G connected call, Tweeted and posted a photo to Twitpic and updated his Facebook status via the new 3G masts to mark his ninth successful expedition to the summit.

“I’ve climbed Everest before, but have never been able to share the exhilaration and excitement I experience when I reach the top with those back home. I unboxed the new Samsung Galaxy S II at base camp and was excited to be able to not only make a 3G connected call home, but also to use all the other great features like updating my Facebook status, tweeting on my journey up and posting a picture to share my moment with friends,” said Kenton.
“We’re proud to be sponsoring Kenton on his 9th climb of Everest and we’re pleased our new Galaxy S II was the phone that the very first 3G connected call and world’s highest tweet was made on. It’s perfect for sharing experiences via social networks and capturing memorable moments and viewing them on its vivid screen and, let’s face it, there aren’t very many moments more memorable than reaching the top of the world’s highest peak,” said Simon Stanford, MD, Samsung Mobile, UK and Ireland.
The Samsung Galaxy S II is Samsung’s slimmest and lightest smartphone yet. It’s the first handset to offer Samsung’s Super AMOLED Plus screen technology the largest, brightest and most colourful screen available in Samsung’s portfolio of devices, making it the best screen for extreme conditions like on the top of Mount Everest. Super slim (8.49mm) and lightweight (116g) with a long battery life, it’s the perfect travel companion.
The Galaxy S II also features an 8 megapixel camera with 1080p HD recording and playback. We won’t all be climbing Everest but Samsung’s patented AllShare technology means you can share pictures and movies wherever you are, whatever you’re doing.
The Samsung Galaxy S II is now available in the UK across all major networks and retailers.
